About me
The name is Jay,
A Thirty year old petrolhead with a driver’s license.(yes finally got it!)
I got the Gumball virus in 2002 after seeing the Jackass and the Ruby wax shows, i’ve been into cars practicly my entire life but i got exposed with a car culture i haven’t witnessed until then.
When seeing the Extreme Channel episodes of 2004 i was certain: I must know more about this! so i joined the UR board (Kim Schmitz’ forum of a Rally to never take part) where i met more people who shared the same interest in Gumball.
From there on things sped up a bit, i followed the 2005 Rally from my home clustered on the internet finding out on the progress of the Rally, who came in first, who got a speeding ticket, who wrecked their car? It turned out to be a good year for the drivers, we all knowwhat happened in 2004 in Morrocco.
It was a bit later that Des from now GTspirit asked me if i could help him out with a new website he was working on: gumball-3000.com.So i started moderating the forum on the site which i kinda enjoyed and found out there really are a lot of people following the lifestyle and glamour of the Gumball 3000. A while later i thought it was time to go and experience the start of the event in the flesh so i booked a bus ticket to London and back, (never again i swore!!) which enabled me to have 16 hrs in London before heading back to The Netherlands. What i’ve experienced there changed my look on the Rally for ever, man this shit is cool! In 2006 being starstruck as i was i met Tony Hawk, Bam margera, Ryan Dunn, Rooftop Escamilla, Mike Vallely which was kinda cool but cooler was i met Alex Roy, Richie warren, Michael ross, Ant and Pete, Jodie Kidd, Dan Joyce, Nods and Dean, Tango, Sten and Polish Adam, those were the true Gumball heroes in my eyes so that was a highlight already.
To top things off i got in the white Lamborghini with “Polish” Adam and got my first ride ever in a supercar, even though in the parking garage, it was a experience i would never forget because it was the first time also for me getting as close to the Rally as possible.
During the time that followed a lot of things have happend since gumball-3000.com changed to GTspirit.com and i thought it was time to go my own way adn i started with Gumball-Live.com, which was going to be just Gumball 3000.
For as 2007 came i wanted to go back to London to witness the madness once more so remember me saying that i would never take the bus again?… well that was half true, because the first checpoint of the Rally was in Amsterdam and i knew i would’t miss it in the world, i booked a bustrip to London and a flight back to rotterdam where a friend of mine would pick me up and drive to Amsterdam, in this way i would have missed the start but would be on time for the Amsterdam cp.
So departure day came, got on the bus and set off for London. After arriving in London i emediatly went to the carpark and started looking around, so many cars too much to mention.
With last years ride in my memory i planned on doing the same this year or better and man did i get an experience. 2007 i went for a short ride with Richie Warren from team fuel in the Mansory Bentley GT aswell as the Ferrari Enzo in which i drove to the startline from the carpark. For this year i must add that i was given a media pass for the event so i had all access, so i even went to the startparty which was amazing aswell. I even managed to get a ride in one of Richies follow cars to Amsterdam so i cancelled my flight back to the Netherlands and got in the car and set off to Amsterdam.
So hopefully you can understand why i love the Gumball so much and can’t wait for the next one!!
Best, Jay
